Social Activities/Groups
Many fun and exciting events are planned throughout the year! Check our online calendar for upcoming fun activities!
Activities with an asterisk (*) are on hold until we can safely resume them with respect to Covid.
Coffee and Conversation Following Services
Everyone is encouraged to stay following our Sunday services to enjoy conversation outdoors. (We hope to return to coffee and conversation in Elarth Hall post-Covid). We enjoy meeting our visitors and finding out more about you. We also enjoy catching up with friends.
*Second Sunday Potluck Meal
On the second Sunday of the month, the congregation gathers for a potluck lunch following the worship service. These are comfortable, informal occasions where all are welcome. Bring a dish to share and meet some new friends! Didn’t bring a dish, no problem, there is always plenty of food for all.
*Circle Suppers
Circle Suppers are a monthly (September – May) social gathering of 6-10 people in a group member’s home to share a potluck meal and stimulating conversation. Stay with the same group for a year. It’s a great way to get to know others! If interested in participating, fill out the online form. Contact Kim with questions or for more information. If your home isn’t big enough to accommodate the group, simply reserve Elarth Hall at UUC.
Annual Service Auction
Each Fall we hold an exciting auction to both raise money to help support our budget and to provide an evening of fun and excitement for adults and children. The auction is our biggest social event of the year. At the auction, you can bid on fabulous dinners and events and continue having fun times with other congregants throughout the year. Learn more.
Quarterlifers
In your 20s or 30s and looking for community? Enjoy social events throughout the year for the whole group or get together with a smaller group of members. Contact Ashley Dugan for more information.
Unitarian Universalist Young Adults (UUYA)
A group for those from just out of high school to age 25. Meet every Tuesday in Elarth Hall from 6:30-8:30 PM to play games, engage with the community, and support our congregation. Once a month there will be an event away from UUC. For more information, contact Ally Dehoff or Lucas Machi.
Men’s & Women’s Coffee/Breakfast
Men’s breakfast meets each Monday morning from 7-9 AM at UUC and the women meet from 7:30-9:30 AM at UUC. Come for all or part of the time and as often as you are able. Bring your own breakfast and coffee and enjoy spirited and interesting conversation. Contact Cynthia for the women’s gathering and Bob for the men’s.
Women’s Lunch
A drop-in Women’s Lunch gathering occurs at noon each Friday’s at UUC – both indoors and outdoors depending on the weather or at 11:30 AM at a local restaurant. Check the online calendar for the time and location each week. Come as often as you are able.
Hiking Group
Our hiking group is open to all who love having fun with others while exploring the outdoors. There are hikes to various trails, some near and some at a distance. To be added to the hiking group mailing list, contact Lisa. Visit the SweetMountainWays webpage for more information on hikes.
Parents’ Covenant Group
Families with young children gather together monthly at 5 PM for a shared potluck meal after which the children go to the nursery with childcare, and the adults gather for meaningful discussion. New families are always welcome for this fun monthly gathering! Contact Deb more information.
*Knitting Group
Gather on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 3 PM with a welcoming group of experienced knitters offsite to share tips and tea. Contact Judy for more info and location.
*Creative Writers’ Group
All writers and aspiring writers of all genres are welcome on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 1:30 PM. This is an informal, encouraging, stimulating gathering with feedback for those who desire. Contact Dick to be added to the group’s email list and to receive further details.
In addition, our many talented members periodically print a small publication of poems and prose showcasing their original works. Your literary gifts are welcomed. For guidelines, submissions and questions contact poetry@uucnrv.org.
