The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Blacksburg and Unitarian Universalist Church of Roanoke are delighted to host the ordination of Anna Tulou into the Unitarian Universalist ministry on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 2 pm in the UUC sanctuary.  A reception will follow in Elarth Hall. The entire UUC community is invited to share in this meaningful and happy occasion, in person (please RSVP here) or on Zoom.

Ordination is the act by which a person becomes a minister. In our faith tradition, only a congregation can ordain a minister. Although we are part of a national organization, our Unitarian Universalist tradition has always valued democracy in its governance, and the congregation’s power to ordain is one part of this.  It is a ceremony with great meaning for both the church community and the new minister.

Ministerial colleagues from Virginia and beyond will welcome Anna into fellowship with them. We look forward to hearing from Reverend Erik Wikstrom, who will preach the sermon, along with Rev. Walter Leflore, Rev. Alex Richardson, Rev. Alex Magee, Rev. Sherman Z. Logan, Rev. Kirk Ballin, Rev. Byron Tyler Coles, Rev. Pam Philips, DLFD Rachel Craine, and ministerial candidates Samara Powers and Phoenix Bell-Shelton Biggs.

For the reception following the service of ordination, we will need volunteers to help set up, to serve food, and to clean up afterwards. We also welcome donations of finger food (savory and sweet) on the afternoon of the Ordination. To volunteer or bring food to the celebratory reception, please use this link to sign up to contribute.

The expenses for the Ordination include costs for the ministers participating in the ceremony, flowers, invitations, childcare, postage, etc. There is no line item for this in the UUC budget. Therefore, the board has approved a request  to allow the collection of donations to cover these expenses. If you would like to make a donation, please make your check payable to UUC and note “ordination” on the memo line.
