Support Groups
UUC hosts several community support groups and you are always welcome. Contact the leader for each group to find out how and where they are meeting.
NAMI NRV Support Groups
Two different NAMI NRV (National Alliance on Mental Illness) support groups meet monthly, both from 6-7:30 PM. NAMI NRV is an affiliate of NAMI Virginia. All are welcome to attend either group. For more information, write NAMInrvVA@gmail.com or call 540-585-1627
The NAMI Connections Support Group meets on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month and is for persons with a mental illness.
The NAMI Family & Friends Support Group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month and is for friends and families of persons with a mental illness.
Parent Bereavement Support Group
This is a support group for bereaved parents and grandparents who have lost an adult or adolescent child. Participants come together once a month on 2nd Mondays from 6-7 PM to listen, to share stories of loss and love, and to help one another on their journeys. For more info, contact Katherine or Lisa.
Caregivers Support Group
This is a support group for those who are caring for a loved one to provide a place to share and discuss the challenges faced, address the importance of self-care, and explore the fears that can be an integral part of the care giving role. Participants meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7 PM. For more information, contact Rev. Pam Philips. If you wish to attend but require somebody to provide respite care, please let us know.
Recovery Dharma
Recovery Dharma groups, meetings, and communities meet to practice, educate, and provide Buddhist teachings and meditations for anyone seeking recovery from addiction. Participants meet each Thursday from 7-8:30 PM. For more info, contact John.
