For the current officers of the Memorial Committee, go to the Memorial Committee home page, or contact the UUC Administrator at 540–552–9716 or by E-mail. Become familiar with the UUC Memorial Garden Policies and Procedures.
Be sure to file your Proof of Purchase in a safe place, and notify your alternate Subscriber of the location of this document.
When you are ready to inter or scatter the cremains, present the completed Memorial Garden Right to Inter or Scatter Cremains Proof of Purchase and a copy of the Death Certificate to the Liaison.
Following the guidelines on the Niche/Paver Order Form, decide on the wording for the Niche Nameplate or the Memorial Paver and give this information to the Liaison. The Liaison is responsible for the wording content and for placing your order with the engraver.
As
Subscriber, you are asked to prepare the deceased’s biographical information described in the Policies and Procedures, Section 8. The Registrar may assist you, if you need help.
If there is to be a ceremony, meet with your officiate and design a service. The UUC Meeting House, as well as the Garden, may be scheduled for both the service and/or reception. Check with the UUC Administrator for available dates and times.
Tell the Caretaker the date and time of the interment or scattering. If a niche is to be used, consult with the Caretaker about the proper receptacle for the cremains. Usually, the cremains are transferred to one of the niche canisters prior to insertion into the niche, but a Subscriber-provided urn (maximum diameter 5-7/8" and maximum length 8") may be used. The Caretaker can help you with the transfer of cremains from the crematorium container to an appropriate canister or urn.
The Caretaker will open the Columbarium to receive the cremains prior to the ceremony and close it after, setting the nameplate in place if it has arrived from the engraver. For scattering, the Caretaker will set the paver before or after the ceremony if it has arrived from the engravers. If you desire to set the paver during the ceremony, the Caretaker will instruct you beforehand.
After the cremains are interred or scattered, the UUC Memorial Committee Representative and you will sign the appropriate Memorial Garden Certificate on which the memorialized person’s name and the interment/scattering date has been inscribed. The Certificate will then be presented to the Subscriber.
