Wednesday, October 10, 2007 The tragic situation in Iraq is now creating a new tragedy at home. Our president, who has no trouble asking for billions of dollars to fund his war in Iraq, can't bring himself to spend money on our most important and vulnerable resource: the health of America's children. How can a man who trumpets that "no child shall be left behind" ignore the health care needs of the children of the poor, working poor and the struggling middle class? His misrepresentation of this program and the safeguards against unwarranted assistance that were included in the bill was one of the most cynical political acts I've seen in a very long time. Meanwhile the contractors and their subs in Iraq are raking in a healthy profit. We know that millions and millions of dollars are wasted, but the requests for money to fund the war keep coming from this penny-pinching president. I fear that our nation and its children will be paying for this administration's self-serving and misguided priorities for a very long time to come. Christine Brownlie ![]() ![]() |
