We Seek to Acquaint Our Young People With and Help Them Appreciate ...
The Jewish and Christian Heritage,
the culture in which we live and out of which our Unitarian Universalist
religion and spirituality have evolved. Beyond a familiarity with Biblical
stories, we offer ways of understanding other than a literal interpretation of
Scripture.
The Unitarian Universalist Way in Religion
that is open, tolerant, based on values of individual freedom, creativity,
friendship and community. We seek to model by example and deeds, instead of
relying on indoctrination and creeds. We wish to communicate a sense of our
history and values as a religious way of life.
The Religions of the World
and the richness and diversity of our world-wide religious heritage. The world
is shrinking, our means of travel and communication are expanding. Our New
River Valley is host to students from every continent. We want to foster
sympathy and understanding of how others believe and worship.
Social Responsibility,
sensitizing our young people to issues such as peace and non-violent conflict
resolution, the nature of prejudice, overcoming poverty, the care of our
environment, racial justice, gender equality.
Concept of God and the multitude of ways people develop a personal understanding and experience of the mystery and miracle of life. Exploring the concept of God, imagining what God might be, and what meaning that may have in their lives, is a natural and normal part of a child’s development growing up in any culture.
