UUC News
As discussed in the July 2010 newsletter, the UUC Committee on Ministries has prepared this short questionnaire to be filled out by UUC members and friends. The results will be helpful to the Board, Minister, and staff in establishing goals for the coming year. Please take the few minutes required to fill it out and return it as instructed by August 8, so the results can be discussed at the Board Retreat on August 21. Note: You can also take the survey online at surveymonkey.
In April 2010, the UUC Memorial Committee was given Board approval to raise $10,000 for construction of a Memorial Garden. The Committee made a presentation at the June 6 Annual Congregational Meeting, and on July 8 the Board approved the Memorial Garden Policies & Procedures. Read more.
If you have possessions such as antiques, old jewelry, coins, shoes, photography equipment, etc. that you no longer use, consider donating them to the UUC for sale on eBay through our dealer, AJ’s Antiques and Art Gallery in Christiansburg. AJ will research the value of each item (eg. a lens, a camera body) and post it on eBay as long as the value of the item exceeds $10.00. Otherwise AJ has suggested that items be bundled to achieve that $10 cutoff. (That Web page shows items currently for sale, and you can use it to monitor the sale of your items.) Once the item sells, you will receive a receipt for the amount that can be used as a charitable-gift tax deduction. Bring your items on a Sunday, and leave them in the closet adjacent to the Cuddle Room (to the right of the sanctuary). Be sure to fill out this form. (Copies are also on the shelves where items are to be left.) For more information or to have items picked up at your home, send a message to this e-mail address.
Thank you to the 174 members and friends who completed the Congregational Assessment Survey in February and March. The Committee on Ministries appreciates the time and commitment involved with a 74% completion rate for this project.
We have prepared two reports on the results, one with the results from the 2009 survey, and one with comparisons between the 2009 results and the previous survey completed in 2004. Please note that not all questions were the same between the two surveys, but the ones that were the same or similar are included in this report. Both of these reports are based on aggregate information and indicate the general sense of the community on each question.

At our 2006 annual meeting in May, the UUC Congregation approved the construction of a new meeting hall and congregational life space with classrooms on a lower level. Click here to see a history (with pictures) of the buiding-expansion process. On September 7, 2008, the Sunday service was devoted to the Building-Expansion Dedication.
