Blessing
led by WomenSpirit

Introduction: (Laureen and Susan)

Today Womenspirit offers a blessing for our beautiful new space using elements from native American traditions. We have prepared our room to receive this blessing by entering joyfully, beating drums and raising energy to revitalize our space that may have become heavy with the stresses of bringing the building project to completion.

The native American medicine wheel symbolizes spirituality and the circle of life which is ever turning and bringing new life lessons and truths. Within it are the four cardinal directions, each one being associated with colors, elements, seasons and life forces. Invoking the spirits or guardians of these directions can ground and center us, and give us a sense of our place in the web of life.

As we seek blessings, please stand with us as you are able and face the directions, beginning with East.

East: (Laureen)

Spirits of East, of air and creativity, bless this space with illumination. May our words to one another be provocative and enlightening. May we always find this space to be one where clear thinking and openness are practiced.

(Light candle) Blessed be.

South: (KC)

Spirits of South, of fire and passion, bless this space with energy. May our words and deeds be filled with enthusiasm and power. May we always find this space to be one that "lights our fires" and fuels our desires.

(Light candle) Blessed be.

West: (Sarah)

Spirits of West, of water and rhythms, bless this space with the assurance of cycles. May we always know with certainty that this is a place of refuge, in any storm; and that as surely as the tides flow, we can count on the constancy of our community.

(Light candle) Blessed be.

North: (Susan)

Spirits of the North, of earth and solid ground, bless this space with focus and firm commitment. May this beautiful new space always provide a lush and fertile environment in which to nurture our children, our neighbors and new found friends.

(Light candle) Blessed be.

Center: (Diana)

Spirits of Center, of spirit and connection, bless this physical space we have imagined and created and the web which connects us all. Help us remember that a tug on the web is a reminder of our interdependence and connection to one another.

(Light candle) Blessed be.

Post Script: (Darla)

We recognize and give honor and thanks to those who have walked before us, to those who journey with us, and to those who will walk this sacred ground in the future. We celebrate the earth beneath our feet, and it is our will that this ground and this space be especially loved, blessed and protected by all who find community here, and by all the powers that be. May this space become a place where visions are born and tasks are done to give us hope for our lives and our world. May children, young people and adults come and grow in love, knowledge, understanding and tolerance. May we always seek to bridge differences, forgive one another, and find joy in each one’s presence.

Blessed Be.
