Summer
Solstice Celebration
Summer
solstice is coming around again, and Womenspirit invites women, men
and children to celebrate and have fun on the longest day of the
year! We’ll gather Friday evening, June 20th at 7 p.m. outside
the UUC, weather permitting. Come join us as we sing and dance
together and celebrate all of summer's offerings. Afterward, we'll
enjoy some light summertime refreshments!
Creating
a Light Portal
You
are invited to participate in Creating a Light Portal of positive
energy over Blacksburg. This ceremony will be held in the yard behind
the UUC from 7:30–8:00 p.m., Sunday, June 22. We’ll move
inside if weather is inclement.
July
4th Picnic/Potluck
Everyone
is invited to the July 4th UUC picnic beginning at 6:30 PM at the
Blacksburg Municipal Park. We have reserved Shelter #1, the big one,
on Turner St. (same as last year). There is a lot of open space for
children (and adults) to run and have fun right next to the shelter.
Caboose Park and the Hand-in-Hand Playground are just across the
street. After the picnic, you can walk over to the park for music and
fireworks. Beverages (iced tea, lemonade, water) will be provided.
Please bring a generous-sized dish to share
Building
Completion Party
On
Saturday, July 12 Scott & Elaine are hosting an all-church (kids
included) BLOWOUT PARTY at their home to celebrate the new building
and show our gratitude to the people responsible for making it happen
— the Building Expansion Taskforce (BET), the Board, and all
the Capital Campaign donors. The fun goes from 4 p.m. till dark-ish.
See the Newsletter for further details.
SUUSI
Potluck
Everyone
is invited to the potluck for early arrivals to SUUSI (see article
next page) on July 19 at 6 p.m. Please bring a dish to share and
let’s feed our guests a great meal. A wonderful opportunity to
meet other UUs from all over the Southeast.
The
Southeast UU Summer Institute (SUUSI)
will be on the Radford University campus this year from July 20-26.
Summer
Arts Festival 2008
In
past years, a popular activity for members (including children) has
been the free concerts on Friday evenings in June and July at 6 PM.
In past years, these were on the Henderson Lawn but due to
construction, that site is unavailable this year. Starting on May 30,
the concerts will be held on the Schultz Dining Hall Lawn (on Alumni
Mall across the street from the back of the Squires Student Center).
For more information, go to this Web site.
Bring a blanket and enjoy the music!
Women's Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. Mondays at The Easy Chair (University Mall, Blacksburg).
A Yoga Group meets on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.
The Sages: Aging as a Spiritual Journey. This group continue to meet every first and third Mondays at 2:00 p.m. We always have a lively discussion on topics of interest to older adults (that means everything in the universe). Any adult of any age is welcome to join us.
